Gouden Carolus Indulgence selected as one of the world’s best beers!
Brewery Het Anker from Mechelen wins another prestigious award at the “World Beer Awards”. "Gouden Carolus Indulgence 2015 – Whisky Infused" was selected as “World’s Best Spirit Flavoured Beer”.
Gouden Carolus Indulgence is a limited series of beers brewed every year with varying content. "Whisky Infused" was the first taste to be produced under this label. For this variety, Gouden Carolus Cuvée van de Keizer Blauw was enriched by an infusion of Gouden Carolus Single Malt whisky from a selection of Anker casks. The result was a unique beer: powerful and full-bodied, with subtle touches of vanilla, oak and chocolate.
The 2016 edition of Gouden Carolus Indulgence is called "Cuvée Sauvage" and was launched earlier this month during the Belgian Beer Weekend. For this second taste, Gouden Carolus Cuvée van de Keizer Rood was blended with 2- and 3-year-old Lambic (20%) from the Boon Brewery (Lembeek). The result is again much appreciated by beer enthusiasts: the Lambic gives the beer a nice refreshingly sour touch.
At the Belgian level, there were also nice awards reserved for Gouden Carolus Tripel (Belgian Style Tripel - Gold Medal), Gouden Carolus Cuvée van de Keizer Rood (Belgian Style Strong - Gold Medal) and Maneblusser (Belgian Style Blonde – Silver Medal).
About Brewery Het Anker
Brewery Het Anker is a 5th generation family brewery at the heart of the Grand Béguinage of Mechelen, which is a recognized UNESCO world heritage site. At this unique location, beer is being brewed since the Middle Ages (1471). Emperor Charles V, who grew up in Mechelen, even had his favorite brew delivered to Spain when he lived there. The brand name “Gouden Carolus” is a reference to the gold coins used during his reign.
The award-winning specialty beers are still brewed in the authentic brew hall with traditional, copper kettles. Both beers are widely available in Belgium and exported to over 40 countries world-wide.
